Dr. Fred Martin Scholarship Fund!
Hi All,
Hope you're doing well. I know how busy you are, but I'm asking for your help in a very special effort. The College of Communication at UT has set a goal to raise $25,000 in order to establish a permanent scholarship in honor of Dr. Fred Martin.
The campaign has already raised over $17,000, but your help is crucial in making this happen. Anything that you could pledge or any contacts with or contact information that you could provide us for Fred's collegues or former UT students would help tremendously.
So many of us wouldn't be where we are today without Fred, and he has been a devoted supporter of the Scott Haug Foundation since its inception. Now is our chance to not only show him our appreciation, but to enable his name to be associated with helping deserving Audiology students from now on. All gifts to the scholarship fund are tax deductible and can be paid out over 5 years.
Please, please, please help us honor Dr. Martin by 1) going to the attached website and making a pledge, 2) contacting me directly at this e-mail address bart.noble@va.gov or at bnoble@nctv.com or on my cell 512-585-5900 or 3) contacting Richard Graw (Director of Development at the UT College of Communication) at richard.graw@austin.utexas.edu or 512-475-9165.
Hope to see you at the Scott Haug Retreat this fall.
Thanks very much!!!

The Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) Department of the College of Communication is pleased to announce a new campaign to raise $25,000 for an endowed scholarship fund in honor of Dr. Frederick N. Martin. Dr. Martin retired from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006, after 38 years as a professor of Audiology.
Some of his many professional accomplishments include:
- Holding the Lillie Hage Jamail Centennial Professorship for 24 of his 38 years at the University
- Authoring over 250 books, chapters, journal articles, and conference papers, among the most notable being 11 editions of the Introduction to Audiology textbook, an invaluable reference for all audiology students and professionals.
- Receiving numerous teaching and research awards, including the Career Award in Hearing from the American Academy of Audiology in 1997 and the first Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Academy of Audiology in 2006.
- Inspiring hundreds, if not thousands, of students to enter the field of audiology either directly by Dr. Martin's passion for teaching or indirectly through his Introduction to Audiology textbooks.
The CSD Department has set a goal to raise $25,000. This campaign will establish a permanent scholarship to honor Dr. Martin's career and what he has meant to generations of audiology students, not to mention the countless number of patients that they in turn have helped. This scholarship will be given each year to:
An undergraduate CSD student who has financial need as well as outstanding academic achievement and the desire to pursue audiology as a career.
The campaign has already raised $7500 toward our goal, and we are looking for your support. A gift of $5000, $2500, $1000, $500 or any other amount will greatly help build this permanent endowment and ensure that Dr. Martin's name will continue to inspire and benefit audiology students in the future.
All gifts to the scholarship fund are tax deductible and can be paid out over 5 years if you choose You can make a gift on-line at
